G0-T0 ("Goto") is a droid
from the 2004 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. G0-T0's red "eye" is taken from HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey, although it has been turned up-side down so that the reflections (from the ceiling lamps inside the spaceship from the movie) are at the bottom instead of the top.
With this red photoreceptor, GOTO has a special red view, which we can try
when controlling him in the game, but this view can be seen while playing
with HK-47, too..G0-T0's name is reminiscent of the BASIC command
GOTO. Its appearance was evidently inspired by the
imperial
interrogation droids, which was seen in the New Hope, when Darth Vader tries to break Leia Organa's resistance with a similar droid. There were several action figures that were released by Hasbro, but none of them looked like Goto perfectly. There were smaller versions, and larger ones, and even an interesting yellow one with a comic book release Darth Vader, these always came with a special stand, simulating the droid's floating in the air.
When he first hear
G0T0's
name in the game, it sounds like he is a mysterious person, who remains far
away from any dangerous
situations,
often sending an interrogation droid like robot instead of him, which black,
round shape droid projects a hologram message from its master, a bearded,
elder person, who deals with his clients, enemies with this method. In fact,
GOTO is not a man, who created a droid for his mysterious communications,
but a droid, who created a personality for him, to be able to interact in
the human world! And in a really successful way! He became a dreaded crime
lord in his sector, he even got rid of his enemies
by
influencing his own men to kill their master. That is how Visquis, a rival
crime lord had been killed by his own Ubese soldiers, for the order of G0T0,
no use of begging I didn't, I wasn't, as it is seen in this screenshot.
GO-TO possessed a large pirate yacht, attacked many other
ships, controlled and directed many
other droids worldwide, who all executed
his orders, and even influenced the Galactic events! GO-TO was interested to
keep the balance between the two rivalling sides of the war, since while
they are focusing to each other, they have not enough energy to detect or
prevent G0-T0's actions, and he could continue his corrupt practices.
To oversee and aid in the planetary reconstruction of the planet Telos, the Republic spent a great deal of credits to design a technical droid to handle the immense data that was produced daily: climate changes, shield management reports, et cetera. This protocol droid was known as G0-T0. Known to few, however, was that the droid also had a secondary duty: to aid in the reconstruction of the Republic, which was wounded from the aftermath of the Jedi Civil War. To accomplish this task, it had two directives:
produce options to rebuild the Republic and to follow all the laws of the Republic.
Working for quite a long time to accomplish its duties on Telos, the droid found itself unable to follow both of the directives for rebuilding the Republic. Every logical option ended up breaking a law of the Republic. In that moment, the droid "broke". Choosing to follow the first directive, the droid began to enact plans to save the Republic, regardless of their legality.
G0-T0's actions, while illegal, did aid the Republic in rebuilding itself. Its smuggling ring caused the deaths of destabilizing persons or organizations, developed unofficial profits for entire sectors, and strengthened Republic worlds that would otherwise be poor and ignored.
During the Old Sith Wars, many bounty hunters ceased to follow the Creed, when the Sith offered a bounty for each and every Jedi, the
Jedi hunters killed many Jedi. With the Jedi nearly extinct, GOTO, leader of the Exchange on Nar Shaddaa put out a higher bounty for every live Jedi, in the hope that the guild's members
and the bounty hunters would bring them alive, however, many thought of it as a decree to destroy Jedi and attempted to kill known
survivors. When one of the last survivors, the Exile Jedi appeared in Nar Shaddaa, the members of the Guild turned on each other in
eagerness to capture the Jedi Exile, eventually terminating each other, finally destroying the Nar Shaddaa
mafia. GO-TO ordered to bring Exile in front of him alive on his ship. The
developers hid a little surprise for us in their conversation, when GOTO
greets the Exile "I was expecting someone taller. The whole situation
reminds me to that scene of the Episode 3, when Anakin says a similar
sentence to general Grievous.
G0-T0's plans were foiled by the
companions of the Exile, who infiltrated into his ship, saved the Jedi Exile,
and destroyed many of the guard droids which were trying to protect their
master, G0T0. Interesting, that several of these
guard droids looked like GOTO, in this screenshot Bao-Dur is fighting a team of the same
interrogation droids in the corridors of GOTO's yacht, which look like the
same way as G0T0. The rescue squad then uncloaked Goto's invisible private yacht, which was then destroyed by the many enemies of Goto, who had formerly been unable to locate the mysterious ship. Everybody
thought that GOTO was destroyed in his ship, but they were mistaken, the
smart droid escaped somehow, and G0-T0 presented itself to the Exile on the Ebon Hawk, but as Goto's "gift", not Goto himself.
He threatened them to blow the Ebon Hawk with a proton detonator if the Exile decides to destroy the droid.
So they let him join Exile's party, and GOTO escorted them throughout the
whole game. On their journey on aboard the Ebon Hawk, Bao-Dur once made some
special upgrades on GOTO, which made the droid even more powerful.
The
cruel droid said a weird thank you for the upgrade, when trying his new
shock arms on Bao-Dur's favourite remote droid. But this conflict is just
the beginning of the war of the opposing round droids, later they will
finish this off for life or death on Malachor.
G0T0
is a
good
character, although many of the gamers don't like directing him, since he
has no lightsaber, but he has multiple droid arms instead! His molton cannon
is so powerful as a napalm weapon, there is no escape from that! In this
screenshot
GOTO
is having a grill party, but not for these two dark jedi apprentices, but
FROM THEM.
And this droid
can be used in many ways, and GOTO can be a very useful member
of our team. First of all, he is the best sniper droid of the
three available droids!
He has a great dexterity point, the best of all
three, so his shots almost always hit the target, so he is good at attacks.
He has a cool targeting module, which aids his targeting.
In addition, he has great reflexes, so he can dodge enemy fires. With
two mandalorian rippers, GOTO is a formidable opponent, and can deal large
damages on every kinds of enemy! Not rare, that the droid deals a 75 points
of damage, which
often equals to a Jedi lightsaber attack!
If you use his power shot function, its is not rare, that GOTO's power shot
pushes the enemies back, often hitting them to the ground!
GOTO's
best feature is his cloaking module, which makes him unseen, so
undetectable, that even the gamer can hardly see him if cloaked. (In this
screenshot THERE IS GOTO!) Using these surprise attacks, the gamer will find
a big advantage over the other droid, and will decide to try this robot in
several missions.
Usually
GOTO's
story is believed to be boring. But that is not exactly true, because that
is an important story according to the game line. You have to influence him
well, and GOTO will tell many interesting things, which makes the game more
round! GOTO can be influenced if you make bad things, and if you follow a
dark path, although that is not so evident, as influencing HK-47, because
while HK likes all the cruel things, G0T0 wants you to stay in the middle of
the Galactic events, and don't help too much any of the opposing parties,
since he needs a balance between the fighting armies to be able to manage
his business undetected.
Goto's fate is not pre-decided. When reaching the end of the game, and visiting Malachor
V,
G0-T0
turns against the party, guessing that Bao-Dur's remote was intended to re-charge the Mass Shadow Generator on the planet, destroying it entirely. The smuggling robot felt that the planet contained too many priceless artifacts to
be destroyed, and attempted to stop the Remote from activating the weapon. The outcome of this conflict is
shown, instead of spelled out. If the player chooses to progress through the
game in accordance with the light side, it is assumed that G0-T0 fails in
his attempt to destroy the Remote, and thus the planet is destroyed by the
Mass Shadow Generator. However, if the player chooses the path of the dark
side for the Exile to walk, the planet remains intact, and the Remote is
destroyed.
