Custom battledroid figure variations

battledroids_nabooDear Readers! This time I won't suggest you to make some difficult figure, which needs putty work, glue, or paint. They are mostly easy to do, changing some droid parts, or adding an extra back pack, or a new head, which can differentiate a mere battle droid, making it unique. These robots always come in mass quantities, in large armies, so if you wish to depict a Geonosis scene, or some other war diorama, you'll need many droids. Several pieces can be bought in the shops, but they are almost all the same. The smart collectors could notice tiny differences between them, but you can modify them further, adding new droid parts on a torso, accessories, creating a complete droid army. Here are some examples, how to build your own!

Battledroid with painted eye, horizontal feet

battledroid_painted eye horizontal feet from the backThe easiest way to make droid variations, to get some so called "bonus droid". Those droids came with some old Episode 1 figures, battledroid_festett_szem_vizszintes labat least some packages contained an extra droid. First version had a horizontal feet, the second had a feet, that turns up. This is a horizontal feet variation, with a new head with painted eyes, instead of the original sunk eyes. This horizontal feet droid type does not has a grommet in its back, so you can NOT attach a bag pack into it.

Battledroid sunk eyes, turned up feet, extra bag pack, firing effect

battledroid sunk eye_turned up feetThis droid type has a feet, that turns up. I let this variation to stay with its original head, that has sunk eyes, and this droid variation has a grommet in its back, so you can attach a bag pack into it. You can buy it, or you can make it by yourself, its the same. Also, a red firing effect can improve a lot, with that, your droid will be able to "shoot".

Original sunk eyed, but different feet bonus droid types

battledroids_sunk eyes different feetsLet's look at the two basic types. We can see clearly, there is not too much to vary on these bonus droids. The feet, the eyes, the bag pack, and the firing effect, that's all. However, these can make them unique, yet. This picture illustrate that well, but let me orientate your attention to the bagpack, some of you might be able to make a custom bagpack for the droid, which makes it even more valuable!

OOM-9

battledroid_oom9_turned up feetWho is braver, he/she battledroid_oom9_turned up feet from the backtry to paint a bit. With two tiny yellow painted part you can modify an OOM-9 from your bonus droid. OOM-9 was the droid commander, who led the Trade Federation droid army at the Battle of Naboo. If you want to make it more special, change his head to a painted eyed one, give him a bag pack, paint a yellow dot on his chest armor, and a yellow part on the upper head armor area, and there you go, you have a custom OOM-9!

Battle damaged bonus droid

battle_damaged bonus droidYou can create your battle_droid_harci serulesekkel oldalrol hatitaskavaldamaged bonus droid! Whoever does not want an original Episode 1 figure, or whoever not able to paint that, never mind! Buy a rust color droid and attach different droid parts to the torso. Legs, arms, heads what so ever. Since the rust color is a later edition, it has a a grommet in its back, so you can NOT attach a bag pack into it. This way, you can have a turned up feet droid WITH bag pack, battle damaged!

Mace Windu droid

battledroid_winduIf you are bored with the bonus droid torso, you can chose an other torso. There were a battle pack, where Mace Windu Jedi master Force Pushed a droid. That was a brand new torso, if you prefer that, you can use it for your variations. But keep in mind, this will always fall apart. Some people choose to fix it with a little glue. An other big mistake of it, you cannot force it to stand alone. And since there is no hole in its feet, you cannot even use a stand!

Battledroid sunk eye magnet version

battledroid_sunked eye magnet versionDo you battledroid_mely_szem_magnes félbevágvaremember such scenes, where a battle droid was cut into two, and his leg marched forwards? If yes, and you wanna build a scene, where similar half droids are marching, or lying, I can warmly recommend this magnet version. If you put them together, nobody will see, that is from tho half droids. But if you take them apart, it can be a highlight of your battle scene, depicting the desctruction of the war.

Joint droid variation custom bag pack

joint droid variation custom bag packThere is a battledroid_sunked eye_horizontal feet custom bagpackdroid, which elbow and knee can be articulated. The children can play with these figures better, while the customizers can create more dynamic, better poses. That is a higher level of the bonus droid torso, which had only a shoulder and a leg joint. You can use its grommet in its back, so you can attach a custom bag pack into it, which can make it really cool!

Kashyyyk camouflage droid variation

battledroid_camoWhen the battledroid_camouflageKashyyyk camo droid duo were released, we decided to buy a pair of droids together with one of my friends, sharing the droids, and the costs, too. This is how I got this greenish droid. But the reference photo on the box was completely different, because the battle damages were not painted on the figure. But I would like to have him that way. So I studied the photo, and custom made a similar droid, painting all the missing wore down parts of the robot, put a little silver on his antennae, and all over his body the missing silvery areas. So for me, he is now THAT droid, who is in the picture. This is not so easy task, but no too difficult either. But if you manage to finish the work, you'll have a much more authentic droid!

Even braver people can try some advanced paints, too. If you want, just try to hand make similar droids, that I have already introduces in this site, at CustomStarWars. The red battle droid and the pilot droid is a bit easier, I would say them an intermediate challenge, but the security battle droid and red droid commander are rather difficult. But anyway, the main thing is to enjoy the work, and in the meantime, you will build your own droid army with great custom made figures!
