Mission Vao

Knights of the Old Republic 1

mission_plays pazaak in tatooine hunter lodge with kudos the rodianMission Vao is one of the main playable characters in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. She is a twi'lek girl, just the same species, that Aayla Secura was in the movie. Mission's character has the game attributes of a scoundrel. (You will often benefit of her scoundrel luck ability, when you send her to play pazaak. I found her very lucky playing Pazaak, she often gets good cards and will win you many turns, even getting a 2 on 18!) Voiced by actor Cat Taber, she is a sweet experience to control during the game play. cat_taber_matt_lanter_matthew_woodCat Taber worked as a wonder, creating a charming, sweet, lovable character. We know that the talented and beautiful actress also played Padme Amidala in the Clone Wars 3D animated film, and these two Star Wars roles really made her loved by the fans. (In this picture Cathrine Taber (Padme) is standing beside Matt Lanter (Anakin), while an EP3 clone trooper separates away Matthew Wood (General Grievous, droids) from the others.) After controlling Bastila Shan, the biggest joy for a male gamer is having Mission in the team. And not only for hearing her voice, and enjoying her company, but also for the exceptional stealth and mission_mine demolition skills are greatdemolition skills, making her very useful for underhanded and sneaky tasks undertaken during the course of the game. However Mission comes with a cool upgradeable vibroblade, I won't suggest using her as a melee fighter, she would do much more damage amongst the enemy with a good pistol, mission_sneaks on some vulkarssneaking on them unseen. You can walk behind any enemy, no one would be able to see Mission in her cloaking device. When she approached these Black Vulkar members in their hideout, they haven't even thought somebody was coming, and they were both dead. You won't be able to see her neither when cloaked, just hardly, if you force your eyes! You gotta focus on the floor, or on the background, and where the light curves, and the air seems vibrating, there is Mission Vao! So noone will see her, especially in a baragwin_armorBaragwin Armor, which you can buy from Suvan Tan later in the game. This armor was developed especially to sneak on the enemy, it has a great amount of extra stealth points, and using it with mission_stealthstealth generator on her belt, a cloaking device on her head, Mission won't be detected until she won't attack. When attacking, using her famous shot Mission will be seen again, but mostly her shot will paralyze the enemy, who won't be able to protect himself. If multiple enemies are present in an area, mission_reflexMission Vao's great reflexes helps her to leap, dodge, or crouch down from the enemy shots, she will be rarely hit! Mission Vao is an ultimate shadow trooper in a way, so having her around all the time is a good idea. With a funny sentence: Miss Mission will be missed in all missions. So take a closer look at her, who was she!

Mission tarisVao grew up as an orphan, having never known her parents, with just her elder brother Griff to look after her. Griff was a scam artist, a gambler, and a drinker, always borrowing credits for his schemes of easy riches which regularly failed, leaving him in debt and on the run. Mission was only five years old when they escaped to Taris, smuggling themselves inside a packing crate in a star freighter's cargo hold, barely having enough supplies to make the trip.

On Taris, Griff and Mission had to live in the Lower City due to the alien ban that restricted access to the Upper City. Her brother Griff was a member of one of the gadon_thekLower City's swoop gangs known as the Hidden Beks. In the Hidden Bek hideout Mission met Gadon Thek, Gadon's bodyguard Zaerdra, and even Zayne Carrick, who travelled to Taris to clear himself under the murders of the four Jedi Padawans. The rival swoop gang's boss, Brejik attempted to kill Zayne with a vibroblade. Zayne was struggling to disarm Brejik when the young Mission came and saved Zayne's life biting Brejik's leg, who drop the blade.

Griff and Mission were regulars of the Lower City cantina when Griff met Lena, a Twi'lek dancing girl, and started dating her. Lena, however, used to date Tarisian nobles, and Griff could never give her the kind of lifestyle she was used to. Eventually, he had to leave Taris, escaping his debts once again, this time together with Lena, and he left his twelve-year-old sister behind. He told Mission that Lena didn't want his little sister tagging along, but promised he would return as soon as they earned enough credits, and that then they would all live like royalty. Believing she made her brother forget about her, Mission hated Lena.

After her brother Griff deserted her on Taris, Mission got by on her own, until one day she made friends with mission_calls_zaalbarZaalbar, a Wookiee outcast from Kashyyyk. Zaalbar was being hassled by members of the Black Vulkars, a major Lower City swoop gang, when he attracted her attention. The sight of thugs picking on a lone Wookiee overwhelmed by a strange environment made her lose her temper, and she charged at them. She was smacked down by one of the Vulkars, but then the Wookiee got angry and yanked him a meter up off the ground, scaring the others away. Despite such unusual circumstances of their meeting - or perhaps because of them - mission_vs_zaalbar tooth brushMission and Zaalbar would stick together ever since, looking out for each other in their own way. She nicknamed mission_vs_zaalbar2 bath dye his hairZaalbar "Big Z". Mission treated the large wookie as her older brother, constantly teased Zaalbar, suggesting he take a bath, brush his teeth, dye his hair, or even wear a suit. For two years they got by in the Lower City, never hearing anything from or about Griff, and often seeking adventure in dangerous spots like the sewers of the Undercity, where Gadon used to tell her not to go.

mission_zaalbarNear the end of the Jedi Civil War, the amnesiac Revan was stranded on Taris with Carth Onasi, following the attack on the Endar Spire, an mission_language galactic basic standardOld Republic warship under the command of the Jedi Bastila Shan. They passed by Javyar's Cantina where they found an unusual pair - a Wookiee, and a fourteen-year-old Twi'lek girl who preferred speaking Galactic Basic Standard rather than her people's native language.

mission_javyar_cantina informantSeeing that Revan was a newcomer in the Lower City, Mission provided him with information about the city, the swoop gangs, local Exchange boss Davik Kang, and the bounty hunter mission_tells about calo nordCalo Nord, who had just walked out of the cantina leaving a few corpses behind. She also spoke of the Hidden Beks as a more honest and reliable gang than the Black Vulkars, which were now led by Brejik, and she mentioned that Davik had recently acquired a new ship for his smuggling operations, the Ebon Hawk, which he supposedly kept in his estate. Mission and Zaalbar then left the cantina to seek more adventures in the Undercity.

mission_aloneAt the Hidden Bek Base, the leader of the gang Gadon Thek made a deal with Revan, agreeing to provide sponsorship in the Tarisian Season Opener in exchange for the retrieval of a prototype accelerator that was stolen from him by the Vulkars. Revan was to break into the Vulkar base, where the swoop upgrade was being kept, and Gadon suggested that Mission could be able to get him in the back way. mission_gamorrean slaversHe then gave Revan authorization papers needed to get past the Sith guard at the elevator to the Undercity in exchange for the Sith uniforms he had used before as a disguise, and promised to let Revan use the accelerator to win the race and get Bastila back, who was being offered as a prize by Brejik, in his game to take over the Lower City. Once off the gates of the Outcast mission_dealvillage of the Undercity, Revan ran into a very distressed Mission. She explained that her friend Zaalbar had been caught by Gamorrean slavers in the sewers and agreed to show Revan a secret entrance into the Vulkar Base if he helped her free the captive Wookiee.

Revan saved Zaalbar from the slavers, and as customary to his people, the Wookiee swore a life debt to him. Mission was not about to part ways with the only family she had since her brother left, so she too joined Revan. They followed him aboard the Ebon Hawk, which Revan stole from Davik, just in time to escape the destruction of Taris. Although Mission was shocked to see her homeworld destroyed before her eyes, she told Revan she would find a way to deal with it, and that whatever help she could offer him against Darth Malak and the Sith she would. Because of her age, Mission was often looked down upon by Revan's other companions. mission_vs_carthCarth Onasi was particularly disgusted at first about a fourteen-year-old living by herself in a dangerous area and occasionally the two found themselves at odds in a father-daughter fashion. Her chief annoyance was when Carth dismissed her on the basis of age. This earned her several arguments with Carth.

During these travels with Revan, Mission encountered Lena, who explained what had happened after she and Griff left Taris. She had dumped Griff, leaving him on Tatooine, where he was working for Czerka Corporation. She also said that she had actually wanted Mission to come with them, and even offered to pay for her ticket, but Griff told Lena that Mission wouldn't leave Taris. In reality, Griff had lied to them both and even though Mission wouldn't believe Lena at first, she realized that she had been misguidedly idolizing her brother. Mission still questioned the validity of Lena's statements and when Revan took the Ebon Hawk for a landing on Tatooine in search of the Star Map, they found griff_vaoGriff Vao had been taken prisoner by Tusken Raiders. In the enclave where he was being kept, a conversation ensued that allowed Mission to realize the truth in Lena's words. Even after his liberation, Griff didn't give up his half-baked business projects. Revan once again met mission_vs_griffGriff, at the Czerka Corporation offices. There he asked Revan to bring him some Tach glands from Kashyyyk to help him make some "Tarisian ale"; Taris was destroyed by an orbital bombardment ordered by Darth Malak, resulting in a cessation of production and consequent significant rise in demand within the markets for the ale. He claimed he could sell the ale, and would use its price to correct his ruined life, paying back his debts, etc, etc. You won't believe him, but a LS Revan might think he should support this miserable, and would give him the needed glands. In the game, if you bring him the tach glands, he tells the player that with this, he can make the ale, and leaves, giving you a date to look for him at the same spot later, when he will give you your share. But if the player returns later, the main character discovers that Griff has disappeared again and cheated us again. (This is maybe a point when even a Light Side Revan would kill Griff with his own hands, no matter how much DS points would it cost.) But we cannot do that, because Griff will never appear again. So the team left Tatooine, and their ship was tractor beamed by Saul Karath's ship, the Leviathan.

Since mission_sniper_tacticsMission was a good slicer and was proficient with Stealth field generators, when the Leviathan captured the Ebon Hawk, and Revan had to choose a member of the crew for a rescue mission, she volunteered her skills with security systems, claiming she could slice her way out of any security cell. If she met some Sith troopers, she sneaked on the under cloaking, and attacked them unexpectedly. Her one-shot-here-one-shot-there tactic became again victorious. After hitting any opponent with her master sniper shot, he started to feel dizzy, paralyzed, and couldn't shoot back. Them Mission hit the other one, too, who got the same laser dose treatment. Then returned to the first one quickly, then again the second, until both were finished off, without even a counter attack shot from them. Finally Mission rescued her companions from the prison cells.

After escaping the Leviathan, Revan revealed his former identity to the crew. Though shaken, Mission found that he was now a completely different person, and therefore stood by him. She followed Revan to the end of his quest, even to the monstrous Star Forge. She was present at the celebration of the Star Forge's destruction and the Republic's victory over the Sith, where Revan's companions were proclaimed as saviors of the Republic and were each awarded the Cross of Glory. Mission's whereabouts during Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords are unknown if the canonical Light Side option is selected. However, one of the items available in the sequel, the Vao Armband, is apparently a gift to her from Zaalbar.

While this ending where Revan is redeemed and the Republic triumphant is considered canonical, there is an alternate ending of the game where Bastila seduces Revan to the dark side of the Force on Lehon. When Revan and Bastila return to the Ebon Hawk, Mission refuses to follow the self-proclaimed Dark Lord of the Sith. Revan commanded her best friend by manipulating Zaalbar Revan convinced the wookie to slay the dumbstruck MissionZaalbar kill her for him instead. Naturally Zaalbar refused at first, but by manipulating him with the Force and his life-debt, Revan finally convinced him to slay the dumbstruck Mission with a single mighty blow. It is also possible to attack Mission without convincing Zaalbar to kill her. In this case, Zaalbar abandons his life debt to Revan and protects Mission. Both are killed at the hands of the newly-reborn Darth Revan.

Please take a look at a shameful awful Mission Vao miniatures figure! It is miserable! She has no face! And look at that Turkish sword like vibroblade! That shouldn't have been curved! That is a straight blade! And even the reference card is disgusting, that doesn't look like Mission at all!
